Buying a diaper changing station can be costly, specially in india, and also in my opinion is a waste of space and also not safe after the baby is a year old. In my case I had developed a safe and comfortable diaper changing station which not only is easy on the budget but also saves a lot of time and is easy to make in any corner of the house. The materials are common house hold items. I have also attached some photographs. Things required:
- Mattress, once folded
- 2 thick bedsheets
- 1 thin bedsheet
- Plastic cover
- Pillow
- Baby wrap
- Tray to keep all the necessary things for diaper changing
Steps:
- Fold a commonly available cotton mattress in to two
- Cover with a bedsheet
- Roll out two thick bedsheets (e.g solapuri chaddar or blankets) into two rolls
- Place a plastic/rubber sheet (bed protector) over it
- Place a cotton wrap above the plastic sheet
- Add a pillow for head rest
Contents of the diaper changing kit:
- Diapers
- Wrap with plastic sheet
- Thermos with warm water
- Cotton (I avoided using baby wipes)
- Steel container
- Handkerchief
- Cloth to wipe after cleaning diaper area
- Moisturizer
- Dress to change while feeding
- Powder puff
