Our lives have all been affected by the Coronavirus/COVID-19 and things are still constantly changing worldwide. Besides adults having questions, your young children might also have questions, but don’t know how to ask or how to express feelings they might be having.

Award-winning independent children’s book publisher, Nosy Crow, in collaboration with Axel Scheffler, illustrator of the much-loved Gruffalo books, and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, they have put together an e-book to explain the coronavirus in the simplest and gentlest of terms. It also has had expert input from Professor Graham Medley of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, who acted as a consultant. The publishing company also enlisted advice from two head teachers and a child psychologist.

Available FREE for anyone to read on screen or to print out, the book answers key questions about the coronavirus and the measures that have been taken to control it in a language ideal for five to nine year olds.

What is the coronavirus, how do you catch the coronavirus, what happens if you catch the coronavirus, why are people worried about catching the coronavirus, is there a cure for the coronavirus, why are some places we normally go to closed, what can I do to help and what’s going to happen next?

20200423_141116.jpgThe illustrations are wonderful as they showcase a variety of people (various ethnicities, disabilities, ages, and appearance). These illustrations help to show that Coronavirus/COVID-19 affects everyone. The characters spoke the right questions and responses kids are likely to have while learning more about this virus. I was completely engaged by the depth of information given. The book touches upon every aspect of the coronavirus and it’s global impact: concise definitions, prevention methods, behavioral changes, what essential workers are doing, ways to help, and so much more! The authors don’t sugar coat what’s going on; you get the good and the bad in equal measures. But they also don’t stoke fear, paranoia, or panic. It’s just the simple, calm, truth about our “new normal.”

There’s so much to love and appreciate about this book. Between the information and dialogue this was a very accessible read. It’s the perfect approach to a series global health issue. We need stuff like this right now, especially to help dispel misinformation.

You can download a copy of the book here: Coronavirus_ABookForChildren or you can also download it from the Official Axel Scheffler website or you can read it on the Nosy crow website.

STAY SAFE!!!
