I regularly explain concepts to my twins on a white board, which is mounted at my height therefore it becomes a bit tiresome when they want to use it.  I had been looking for an easel, which could be easily folded and stored. One of my twin prefers a white board and the other a black board with chalk when I ask them to just express themselves, to make sure they understand a concept by having them write it out or depict it, or explain concepts and ideas in a visual manner. I chose the IKEA Easel for it’s multipurpose use. The easel has a whiteboard on one side and a blackboard on the other with a space for a roll of paper in between. Copying adults and role playing everyday situations is important for children throughout the world. Especially during the years aged three to seven, role playing is an enjoyable way for the small child to process impressions, understand the world around them and practice being a social being.  A play kitchen is one of the best toy investments you can make. They encourage creativity, role play, language development and more. And it will be played with daily for years and years. The TWO THINGS which I buy for the twins, without giving much thought are: BOOKS AND COSTUMES. My twins love to play dress-up. They have a  set of  costume bins full of all kinds of sparkly dresses, scarves, satin gloves, tiaras, superhero costumes, jewellery and masks. They love playing together and getting all dress up and get lost in their own little world of mermaids, princesses, powerful woman and supergirls. Art has always had a big impact in my life. As a lover of all things beautiful, I want to make sure that my kids grow up willing and able to appreciate art, particularly classical art and good design. For me, one of the saddest things is seeing people whine about museum visits. Continue reading “Art Appreciation: Van Gogh and my Twins”

My twins love art…..it’s a form of expression for them. I had a eye on this ‘Giant Desk Tidy’ by Hamley’s for a long time, but thought the cost of 3599/- was too steep. So when Hamley’s announced their 50% sale this year, I had to buy it for the girls.

Children love nearly anything pertaining to nature. They love digging in the dirt, creating yummy treats, and playing around trees. Children are curious by nature, and there is no greater joy than that from a child who has cultivated plants from his or her own vegetable garden. We undertook this fun “our little tomato plant” activity as a summer project which went on for the next 6 months until it bore a tomato near Christmas time and is still going on. My daughters who are 5 year old twins are attending Preparatory class this year. They have a very theme based curriculum in their school with more open discussions and practical knowledge. One of the topic of the month was “Flowers and Plants” and they were asked to bring any article, chart, plant, flower related to the topic. Not only we enjoyed making charts related to this topic, we learnt a lot in the process. The following are the charts we made, which are easy to understand and can be discussed with a 5 year old.
